Is your iPhone eating up your phone bill?

Mine does. In a shocking discovery, apparently my bill for Globe is now around 8,000php. That is soooooooooooo BIG that I now hate Globe. I called their CustHelp (211) and the agent there did not help solve that problem.

So the problem is the Wi-Fi.

The Globe CustHelp via 211 did not tell me this but good thing the people at applei.ph community told me about “Kahit naka wi-fi ka, pag nag fluctuate yung wi-fi, automatic mag co-connect sa 3G yung iphone” (even if you are using your wi-fi, once the connection between your router and iphone fluctuates, your iPhone will connect to the 3G service.)

What to do?

iPhone users, who are fond of connecting to the internet through their home wi-fi should change the APN settings to make sure you will not be billed by Globe or SMART on internet use.

How?

1. Go to Settings > General > Network

2. Change APN from internet.globe.com.ph to something like fake.internet.globe.com.ph

3. Reset your “Usage” for Cellular Data Network.

4. Connect to the internet via wi-fi and check if your “Usage” doesn’t get any bytes.

Once you have confirmed that you can connect to the internet through your home wi-fi without the Usage getting any bytes, then you won’t be getting those WHOPPING POSTPAID BILLS anymore.

On Perfect World bots, cheat and hacks

We’ve seen it. Tested it, tried it, used it and even go documented them well enough just to report it to our game developers.

But why do most players result to this?

In a free-to-play MMORPG like Perfect World, it really would make sense if people will use these cheats rather than on a game with subscription. You wouldn’t want to pay a subscription fee if only the bot is the one playing.

For obvious reasons, it’s to take advantage. Farming while you go sleep, eat or while taking a bath is kinda tempting. Also, no one could deny now that there are business-minded players out there selling items or in-game currency for real money. These Businessmen use Third-party programs or hire “pilots” to get their business running.

What’s good to a player may be bad to the whole community

And this is why Cheats, Hacks, bots, or most third-party programs are ILLEGAL for mmorps… This breaks the balance of the in-game economy. The game mechanics, restrictions, quests, mobs, and other game features are there for a reason and that reason is to make the game more interesting.

Will you continue playing an online game if you’ll just see 2-4 people botting their way to level 100? No.

BANZOR!

We ban them and they tell us, they’re just using coins or a macro keyboard rather than a bot.

That line is the most commonly used alibi when we ban someone for using Third-party programs. But what they don’t know is that we can see everything in the LOGS.

What’s a log? A log is the data the server keeps or is using to operate. Logs can be instructions for the server what it should do next or what the client is doing.

One good example of a server log of a character using a coin or a macro keyboard is:

As you can see, the log is repeated since the F1 key is being pressed repeatedly. Which indicates or can be an evidence that a player really is on a coin-mode keyboard or using a Macro.

However, if it’s a bot, the log will look like:

/cast Heal

Move to 251,68

/startattack

/move to 223, 60

/stopattack

/Immortal Burst

So you see… we really will know if someone is using a third-party program.

If you love your account or character, don’t even try using them.

Interview with Xero – 25k damager!

Whenever a 10,000+ damage in an online game suddenly appears, most of the time, players think of it as a cheat or damage hack. Honestly, we GMs too thought at first that there’s something going on since the equips and character class in which the 21k damage hits is a Yao Shou. Thus the reason why Xero was banned for character investigation.

Fortunately for Xero, he was able to prove that a 21,000+ damage is possible without using cheats or hacks. Then came our decision to release his character since he did prove his innocence.

I asked Xero a few questions as well to share some tips for our Heroes on how he did the 25,938 damage and the 21,000 damage that caused this investigation.

[GM]SamHok: What can you say about the 21k damage you did on the Territorial War?

Xero: Lucky beacause theres only a slim chance to do a critical hit.

[GM]SamHok: How did you do the 21k damage?

Xero: First by using injure debuff skill of Yao Jing then the dragon skill of Wu Xia and an attack skill from Fa Shih.

[GM]SamHok: What did you feel when you did the 21k damage? Did you plan it?

Xero: It just happen naturally maybe luck is just on my side on that moment because critical hit only occur sometimes.

[GM]SamHok: Was it part of clan strategy or party strategy?

Xero: Clan strategy.

[GM]SamHok: Now that it’s proven that anybody can deal more than 20k damage and even 25k damage as seen in the video, what can you advice to other Heroes of PW who wants to deal as much damage as you can?

Xero: Compensate on what you lack and coordinate with your teammates.

You see, there’s no need to use hacks or cheats to reach a high damage. A good teamwork plus long-term strategy of getting good equips is the key to winning the ultimate PVP rather, Territorial War. Also, these hacks and cheats or any form of abuse is a form of killing the games we love and hurts the community playing the online game. Most of all, it’s not just applicable to Perfect World but also in other online games out there. No to 3PPs! WooooT!

1. Access your canopy site through http://169.254.1.1/smartgsm.cgi
2. Go to Configuration -> Quality of Service (QoS) ->

set the following:
Sustained Uplink Data Rate : 300
Sustained Downlink Data Rate : 700

3. Click Save Changes.
4. Click Reboot.

Your Internet connection will then disconnect and just to make sure, you can reboot your PC as well.

In-game Prizes and Awarding – Not able to receive your prize or delayed?

If you’re one of them who participated in an event, contest or tournament in Perfect World or any online game but was not able to receive them on time then check out the following reminders and common problems below.

1. ASCII / Special Characters Problem – This is the most common problem encountered by the GM Team in Prize Awarding. If you’re character name has an ASCII or Special Character on it, make sure that you include or submit to us how to do that specific ASCII code.

Example: SÅmH☺k (Å = Alt+ 0197, ☺ = Alt+ 1)

2. GM unable to read clearly your penmanship on registration forms or Prize Award forms – This is the most common problem during live events (DWARS and Battle Arena). Make sure that you write your username and character name legibly so it won’t be hard for the supervising Community Manager to read/encode them once he/she returns to the office. Avoid erasures or errors as much as possible.

What to do?

If you think/feel that you’re one of the Heroes that hasn’t been awarded yet due to the problems I mentioned above, then follow the instructions below.

1. Always double check – Before submitting an entry or writing your character name and username, make sure that they are correct and exactly the same as the one registered on our servers. Always think that they are CASE SENSITIVE. Make sure as well that you’ve included what server you are in. The server is as important as the names.

2. Include how to do the ASCII codes or Special Characters – If your name has a code in it, then always include the Alt + **** of the code.

Example: SÅmH☺k (Å = Alt+ 0197, ☺ = Alt+ 1)

3. Provide your exact username together with the character name – If the GM team was not able to locate your character name, they check the accounts through the usernames. The username is very important. It is where we locate the characters if we can’t find them on our database. This is for the reason that there are no ASCII codes or Special Characters in it.

All in all, provide accurate information.

Remember as well that WE WILL NEVER ASK FOR YOUR PASSWORD.
