iPhone 4 Unlocked Now Available – Could Come To the Philippines too

Apple is now selling through its stores the unlocked iPhone 4. What does it mean to Filipinos? Well, it means that you can now get an iPhone 4 someday that doesn’t require the 2-year contract from Globe.

Right now, only the GSM model of the iPhone 4 is available. But that’s okay if you’re planning to live in the Philippines. The 16GB version of the iPhone 4 is available for USD649$ roughly 27,907php if you convert directly to pesos and the 32GB is available for USD749$ or 32,307php. However, we all know that it would probably be more expensive than that.

I just hope that with this move, iPhone will one day become available to other carriers and the competition on selling the iPhone will one day come to our shores.

Globe iPhone Plan – Scamming you through Internet Data Plan?

Have you noticed that on your first month of your iPhone plan with Globe, your bill will be so big, it reaches from 5,000php to 11,000php?

This happens especially if you signed up for a Time-based Data Plan and you never turn-off or change the APN settings of your iPhone.

First time iPhone user? GO KB-Data Plan

I admit, I’ve paid Globe the 9,000php bill on me even if I know it feels like a scam since my Internet at home is only 1,999php and when I thought I’m only using the wi-fi of my home internet, Globe is still charging my internet access. The culprit–Time-based Data Plan.

The solution is easy; if you’re someone who wants to be online 24/7, then change your plan to KB-based.

How to change your Globe iPhone Plan?

  1. Call 211 – Believe me, it’s faster calling 211 than going to their website or via their live chat support.
  2. Tell them that they scammed you through your whopping bill (lol) and Request for a change of data plan from Time-based to KB-based.
  3. (Optional) If you’re persuasive enough to request them that they should reverse your OVER-CHARGED bill and erase the history of Globe’s Scam, then good for you.

So for those planning to get an iPhone here in the Philippines, make sure you go KB-Based Data Plan and avoid becoming the victim of Globe Telecom’s Scam.

Is your iPhone eating up your phone bill?

iPhone 3GS ModelMine does. In a shocking discovery, apparently my bill for Globe is now around 8,000php. That is soooooooooooo BIG that I now hate Globe. I called their CustHelp (211) and the agent there did not help solve that problem.

So the problem is the Wi-Fi.

The Globe CustHelp via 211 did not tell me this but good thing the people at applei.ph community told me about “Kahit naka wi-fi ka, pag nag fluctuate yung wi-fi, automatic mag co-connect sa 3G yung iphone” (even if you are using your wi-fi, once the connection between your router and iphone fluctuates, your iPhone will connect to the 3G service.)

What to do?

iPhone users, who are fond of connecting to the internet through their home wi-fi should change the APN settings to make sure you will not be billed by Globe or SMART on internet use.

How?

1. Go to Settings > General > Network

2. Change APN from internet.globe.com.ph to something like fake.internet.globe.com.ph

3. Reset your “Usage” for Cellular Data Network.

4. Connect to the internet via wi-fi and check if your “Usage” doesn’t get any bytes.

Once you have confirmed that you can connect to the internet through your home wi-fi without the Usage getting any bytes, then you won’t be getting those WHOPPING POSTPAID BILLS anymore.

School of Design and Arts and MAC PRO evolution

CSB_SDA_building The very first state of the art school in the Philippines is already amazing when you look at it outside. SDA (School of Design and Arts) or Camp Big Falcon as most Professors and students call it,  is definitely remarkable and a breakthrough for how we look at college buildings. On the right is a picture of the College of Saint Benilde’s School of Design and Arts.

Looks great isn’t it? But wait! There’s more! Last school year, our professors went to Singapore to get the latest technology out there in the world that hasn’t reached the Philippines yet. (but actually, we have them now here. It’s just cheaper in Singapore) From the thousands of books ranging from 1,000 pesos to 10,000 pesos (20$ to 200$ US dollars) each to the 200 units of Mac PRO to fill out and replace the old computers in the lab!

mac_PRO You heard / read it right. APPLE MAC PRO! The world?s first 3.0GHz, 8-core Intel Xeon-based Mac Pro. What I am not sure is if those Mac Pro are 8-core or Quad-core, but whichever it is, it is a sure guarantee of at least a quad-core.

Another thing is if it’s a MAC PRO, did our chairman Sir Ram Nolasco ordered these top of the line Mac with the Adobe Creative Suite 3? In my opinion, yes! There’s no use getting a Mac Pro if the software is not the best as well.

I am now so excited to see the new labs for next term. Definitely, my 3D animation, Video Production and Web Development classes for next term will be very very exciting.

Experience the web, Apple style.

apple_safariInternet browsing should be fast and instant. Last week, I was looking for ways on how to improve the performance of Firefox 2 since it’s getting slower with all the extensions, themes and plug-in that it loads. IE7 is a little faster but on some web sites, it is slow. So I searched Google for another web browser that will be okay in Windows Vista.

Voila! I found Safari and it took me to a long journey over the internet (okay, not that long… just one week by now). The Apple Inc. browser is really 2x faster than the other browsers I have. Even though it is still in public beta, this internet browser is promising. Don’t think of me as an Apple Inc. fan, I hated Mac for it’s a virus time bomb and it’s only the gadgets and the browser that I liked for now.

Aside from the noticeable bug specifically on web sites that has javascript prompts, performance and security is great. I will definitely be using this browser for quite a long time.
